Hubby ain’t movin’ - In a recent national survey for Allied Van Lines, 34% of husbands said the would not relocate to another city for a wife’s or partner’s career, compared to just 14% of wives who said they wouldn’t move.

Wisconsin ”out of step” on marriages - Wisconsin has had lower divorce and marriage rates than the rest of the country for 75 years. Currently the state’s marriage rate per thousand population is 7, compared to 8.9 nationally, while Wisconsin’s divorce rate is 3.3, versus the national rate of 4.4.

Reduce divorce - make it tougher to get married. In a recent article Time magazine raised the questions of whether both divorce and marriage are too easy. While just 50% of those polled thought that it should be harder to get a divorce, 64% agreed that people should be required to take a marriage-education course before getting a marriage license.

Halloween a big night out - for grown-ups. Advertising Age magazine reports that - in terms of popularity and consumer -spending, Halloween now surpasses all other holidays except Christmas. American Greetings company says that 50% of Americans decorate for Halloween, compared to 80% for Christmas. Halloween is now the third most popular adult party occasion, behind New Year’s Eve and the Super Bowl. And Halloween is the leading time for candy sales across the country. (Why did the skeleton go to the party alone? Because he had no body to got with!)

Single life tough for clergy - Think it’s tough being single? Try being a single unattached minister. A recent Associated Press story noted, “The unequal power in a relationship between someone viewed as God’s representative and a member of the flock prevent many clergy from seeking potential mates inside the churches where they spend most of their time.” Yet the demands of their work leave most single pastors little time for socializing away from church. A recent study of single ministers found that most viewed their profession as an obstacle to a romantic relationship. And if most denominations don’t deal well with the pressures of religious life on families, they are even less helpful in dealing with the problems of their single pastors.

You know you’re successfully single when you’re focusing on what you are, not on what you aren’t.
